Library workers and community to speak on Rockrimmon closure
Nov 15, 2024
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. the Pikes Peak Library Workers United is hosting an event to share patron and worker perspectives on the Rockrimmon Library closure.
According to the union, the event will feature speakers from the Save the Rockrimmon Library group and multiple workers from the Pikes Peak Library District. The union said it will speak about issues at PPLD including what they said are internal problems in the library.
The union alleges there has been an irresponsible use of funds, a lack of transparency, communication issues internally and externally, conflicting messages from leadership and the Board of Trustees, and how the priorities of the board and library leadership team have been harming the community.
"The goal is to shine a light on the problems that have fed into the closure of the Rockrimmon Library. Perspectives from inside the institution have not been widely shared, and it will be illuminating to the public," writes Jacob Ward, President of the Pikes Peak Library Workers United.
The event will take place at the IBEW #113 Hall, which is located at 2150 Naegele Road in Old Colorado City.
