Former South Meck teacher charged with sex crimes takes plea deal

CHARLOTTE, NC – A former teacher at South Meck High School has pleaded guilty to a charge of crimes against nature.
Gabriela Cartaya-Neufeld had been charged with several counts of sexual activity with a student.
Police arrested her in November of 2023, after the mother of an 18-year-old student said she caught the two having sex at Park Road Park.
According to court documents, Cartaya-Neufeld entered a guilty plea in court on Thursday and received a suspended sentence.
She has to give up her teaching license and is not allowed to work with any minor.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A teacher at South Mecklenburg High School was arrested and charged for engaging in sexual activity with an 18-year-old student, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
On Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, police were made aware that Gabriela Neufeld, 26, allegedly engaged in sexual activity with a student at Park Road Park near Closeburn Road.
Neufeld, who was previously suspended with pay, was transported to the Mecklenburg County Detention Center. She has been charged with sexual activity with a student by a teacher.
This case remains under investigation.
