Douglas County Douglas County Emergency Management is pleased to announce the release of its updated Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP), a comprehensive five-year strategy to reduce the impacts of natural and man-made disasters on our community’s people, property, and environment. This strategic update outlines actions aimed at minimizing vulnerabilities across the county, supporting a safer and more resilient future for all residents. The HMP identifies and profiles a wide range of hazards, from natural disasters such as floods, wildfires, and severe storms, to man-made and technological threats, helping Douglas County to address the complex challenges that pose risks to both life and property. This forward-looking plan was developed in close collaboration with local stakeholders, emergency response teams, and other community partners, ensuring that it reflects the specific needs and priorities of our community. Community members are encouraged to review the Hazard Mitigation Plan and provide feedback, as public input is vital to its continued success. By meeting FEMA’s standards, Douglas County remains positioned to apply for grants that support a variety of mitigation initiatives, from infrastructure improvements to advanced early-warning systems and public education campaigns. While FEMA’s mitigation grant funding is only available for natural disaster projects, Douglas County has proactively expanded the scope of its HMP to include man-made and technological hazards. This broader approach aligns with the County’s long-term planning objectives and reflects its commitment to addressing an evolving range of challenges.
