Williston tree lighting ceremony officially scheduled
Nov 15, 2024
WILLISTON, ND (KXNET) — Everyone in Williston is invited to celebrate a treasured holiday tradition.
On December 2, the City of Williston will light the Community Christmas Tree at 5:30 p.m., weather permitting, pursuant to burn restrictions.
For the last 10 years, a tree has been chosen from a list of people who choose to donate a tree. This year's Christmas tree comes from Travis Nelsen and his family.
The Colorado Blue Spruce stands around 41 feet tall and weighs around 6,500 pounds.
How to deal with difficult relatives during the holidays
Nelsen was home to watch the tree be harvested and said it was too large for his yard.
"I will miss the tree, that's the biggest thing," he said. "But it's a good feeling to have it donated and used for the Christmas Tree for Williston, rather than just being cut down and taken away."
A bonfire, refreshments, holiday music, and a brief ceremony will happen before the official lighting, and a fireworks show will happen after.
