(KRON) -- A 78-year-old pedestrian died after he was struck by a vehicle Thursday while crossing a street in Berkeley, the Berkeley Police Department said. At 6:17 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Rose and Josephine streets on the report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car. Emergency responders found a 78-year-old Berkeley man who had been struck by a car and transported him to Highland Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries, Berkeley PD said. Multi-agency response contains Chevron diesel spill into San Francisco Bay The investigation showed the man was walking south along the east side of Josephine Street and crossing Rose Street at the time of the crash. The driver of the car, a 79-year-old Berkeley woman, remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities, police said. The death marks the city’s fourth fatal traffic fatality of 2024.
