NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Seasonably cold air is this once again the big story this morning, but with a high pressure system moving eastward from our southeast and a low pressure approaching from the west, today will be the last day in the short term with big temperature jumps with dry air before the next weather pattern change as winds are set to pick up. Along with mostly clear skies with dry air and light winds for now, radiational cooling has taken place this morning, as temperatures are ranging from the high single digits to the lower 40s across New Mexico, a bit chilly compared to normal to start off the morning for this time of the year. From the morning school commute on into the afternoon, temperatures will mostly eventually reach into the upper 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and low 80s, above normal for this time of the year, warmer than yesterday, allowing for even more snowmelt in the mountains, especially in the surrounding lower-elevation communities. Out in front of our next storm system this weekend, today will be warmer, drier, and windier, then some precipitation will ensue later tomorrow into early Monday with temperatures dropping, setting the stage for a possible quick-hitting storm system impacting a few areas towards the middle of next week.
