WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — A Charlestown woman was sentenced on Friday in connection with the death of an East Greenwich teen two years ago. Alicia Peckham, 27, was found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death as an aider and abettor, harboring a criminal, misprision of a felony and obstruction of justice. Peckham was sentenced to three years, with 10 months to serve at the ACI and two years for the rest of her time in home confinement. She was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and complete 200 hours of community service "I give my condolences to the family, certainly, 100%," Peckham told 12 News outside court. Investigators believe her then-boyfriend Aramis Segura was speeding when he slammed into the back of 17-year-old Olivia Passaretti’s car on I-95 South as she was driving home early on New Year’s Day. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Segura abandoned his car and took off running in the woods where he eventually connected with Peckham, who drove him back to their Charlestown home. During the trial, prosecutors presented texts Peckham allegedly sent to Segura’s sister the night of the crash, as well as an audio recording of her interview with detectives where she admitted to lying twice throughout the investigation. Peckham's attorney was successful in getting one of the charges dismissed and told 12 News outside court that he thinks the sentence is fair. Meanwhile, Passaretti’s family is just happy to close this chapter. "Was it enough time? No. But at the end of the day, no time would ever be enough because nothing brings her back," her sister Victoria Passaretti said. "We just hope at the end of the day, [Peckham] learns from her actions and she takes something away from this." Peckham's sentence officially begins Friday, Dec. 13. Segura is slated to be sentenced in January after pleading no contest last month.
