LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a fire broke out at a gold-plating plant in Lincoln Friday morning. Fire Chief Timothy Walsh said crews responded to the facility on New England Way around 8 a.m. The department learned the fire started in their hopper system, which has metal shavings and polishing compounds that caught on fire and extended into the building. "The type of fire in this building created a tremendous amount of smoke as well as possibly some of the chemicals as this company does work with some hazardous materials," Walsh explained. The building was completely evacuated and the fire was put out. Four employees were evaluated on scene and then transported to the hospital with possible smoke inhalation issues, Walsh said. The building is currently being ventilated. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Breaking News SIGN UP NOW
