Man found guilty of double homicide in 2021 Fall River park shooting
Nov 15, 2024
FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — A 22-year-old man was convicted Friday of fatally shooting two people, including a 14-year-old boy, in a Fall River park three years ago.
Jeremy Holmes of Fall River was found guilty of two counts of murder and one count of assault and battery with a firearm, according to a court clerk.
The charges stem from a shooting on May 18, 2021, when Holmes opened fire on 14-year-old Miguel Sanjurjo, 29-year-old Jovaughn Antonia Mills, and a 19-year-old man.
Both Sanjurjo and Mills died from their injuries, while the third victim survived.

The court ruled that Holmes' actions were intentional and the murders were deliberate, rejecting his attorney’s argument that he fired in self-defense to protect unarmed friends. Evidence showed Holmes fired every round in his gun at the victims.
“He pointed his gun, pulled the trigger, and did not stop until he unloaded every bullet in his gun at the other side,” Bristol County Assistant District Attorney Patrick Driscoll said during the trial. “That’s not a man who’s acting to defend other people. That’s a man who is shooting with purpose.”
Holmes is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 10.
