NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Students at George Washington Carver High School will be released early after receiving a threat on Friday, Nov. 15. School officials posted on social media that "out of an abundance of caution, the school day will end early." "We were made aware of an anonymous and concerning message directed at our school this morning. As a result, and out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to send children home today and end our week early. We plan to resume our normal school schedule on Monday, November 18th. G.W. Carver High School Man shot, killed in Central Business District Friday morning This comes a day after the New Orleans Police Department investigated several threats made toward additional New Orleans schools on Thursday, Nov. 14. The NOPD is actively addressing the growing concerns about school threats to ensure the safety of our children and schools.  Yesterday, all schools practiced their safety protocols, and along with our quick responses, these measures kept our children safe. We want parents to know that we are fully committed to protecting our students, with the support of local, state, and federal agencies, including Homeland Security. While we are taking every precaution, we urge parents and students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to school officials or law enforcement. Together, we can maintain safe learning environments.
