MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A Memphis Shelby County employee was caught with a gun in his backpack at Bolton High School Wednesday, deputies say. He was released from jail without bond on Thursday. Just before 11 a.m., deputies say they responded to a weapon law violation/misdemeanor at Bolton High School on 7323 Brunswick Road. According to reports, Mar Christian Calma came through the school's security metal detectors with a handgun in his backpack. Mar Christian Calma (SCSO) Calma told deputies that he usually does not carry the bag and forgot the gun was inside. He says he only carried it because it was raining and that he meant to leave the backpack in his truck. Deputies say a Palmetto 9mm semi-automatic handgun was found inside the backpack with 13 live rounds inside of the magazine. No rounds were in the chamber due to the gun not being charged. 📡 See more breaking news, local news and weather from WREG.com for Memphis and the Mid-South. 📧 Sign up for WREG newsletters and have the latest top stories sent right to your inbox.
