FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Gov. Andy Beshear announced a landmark economic development project on Friday, with Shelbyville Battery Manufacturing set to create 1,572 high-tech jobs through a nearly $712 million investment in Shelby County. According to a release, the initiative marks the largest jobs announcement in Kentucky in over two years and the biggest investment in Shelby County’s history. “This is the single largest investment and job creation announcement we have on record for Shelby County, and it is the largest project Kentucky has seen this year,” Gov. Beshear said. “This project will solidify our role as a leader in the country’s energy storage sector and will transform our economy, creating opportunities for Kentucky families for generations.” The project, led by Shelbyville Battery Manufacturing, a subsidiary of e-Storage, will establish a 1 million-square-foot manufacturing facility on Logistics Drive in Shelbyville, according to the release.  The state-of-the-art plant will produce 6-gigawatt-hour battery cells, modules, and packaging, which will be used in modular, utility-scale energy storage systems for customers across the United States. Production at the facility is expected to begin by the end of 2025.
