(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Saturday, Nov. 16 the Youth Documentary Academy will hold its world premiere of 13 films at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts at the Colorado College. The Youth Documentary Academy was founded in 2014 and has produced over 150 films covering a variety of topics such as colorism, teen mental health and suicide prevention, immigration, neuro-divergence, climate, gender, LGBTQ+ issues, and more. The 2024 films feature stories of a student's reconciliation with an estranged father, one student's journey in northern Colorado Springs as one of the few students of color, homelessness in Colorado Springs, one student's journey with severe obsessive-compulsive disorder, and their family's healing journey, and a film that breaks the student's silence on an eating disorder kept hidden for two years. “These films are locally produced and nationally acclaimed and address the important social and mental health issues youth in our region are facing,” said executive director Tom Shepard. The premiere will be held in two blocks, one at 3 p.m. and the other at 6:30 p.m. Tickets to the event can be purchased online in the link above.
