How a Texas concrete company is expanding its Capital Region footprint

Texas-based CJT Concrete is expanding its operations in the Capital Region through a property purchase in Zachary.
The company recently bought a roughly 12-acre tract on Salvant Road near U.S. 61 and Mount Pleasant-Zachary Road through CJT Concrete Crushing LLC from RFI LLC for $1.5 million, according to a deal filed Tuesday with the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court’s office.
The property contained a concrete crushing facility that CJT will continue to operate.
Cole Brewton and Nick Tuleu with Elifin Realty brokered the deal for both parties.
“This is expansion into a slightly new industry for us,” says Megan Songy with CJT. “We’re a concrete subcontractor, so a lot of the larger general contractors hire us to do their building foundations, slabs, concrete paving and concrete tilt walls. By buying the concrete crusher, we’ll be able to crush the old concrete and reuse it on our job sites, along with selling it to other customers.”
CJT Concrete has been servicing Louisiana for the past 10 years and the company has an office in the newly constructed industrial complex on South Choctaw Road.
Songy says the goal is to get the concrete crushing site running at maximum capacity and start servicing larger projects in the area.
The purchased property is adjacent to Holcim’s concrete plant and another ready mix plant currently under construction.
Holcim, an international cement and concrete company headquartered in Switzerland, acquired Cajun Ready Mix Concrete in 2022.
“It’s located strategically off the highway, and we feel that it was a good location to move the rock because if we’re not in a good spot, then it’s not efficient,” Songy says. “We’ll have two concrete ready mix plants on the same road as us. They always have excess concrete that needs to be put somewhere. We’ll take all their excess concrete and have a nice symbiotic relationship.”
The company is assessing the equipment and preparing the location for use. Songy expects the company to be operating at the Zachary site in early 2025.
CJT’s headquarters is in Rockwall, Texas. The company services Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
