Which current Detroit Lions player do you think is tailor-made for a future on TV? Watching ESPN or NFL Network these days is a trip if you have been a fan of the NFL for some time. For instance, while watching “Inside the NFL” on NFL Network, three of the four hosts are former players. Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is joined by Ryan Clark, Chris Long, and Chad Johnson for each show, and the content is awesome.
And while there is no requirement of being a professional football player in order to be on TV, I do think certain perspectives are unique to those that have been in the shoes of the people they are covering. This, along with many other reasons, are a big part of why more and more networks are turning to retired NFL players to round out their staffs.
In the case of the Detroit Lions, not only is the team immensely talented on the field, they also have no shortage of personalities off it.
That brings us to today’s Question of the Day:
Which current Lions player do you think is best suited for TV after their playing days are done?
My Answer: This was a tough one, and to be clear—I think there are no real wrong answers here. With that said, I am going with defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. It would be easy to imagine Hutchinson kicking the tires on a career on screen after a nice, long, and successful career with the Lions.
You can tell he is well-liked in the locker room, and is at home in speaking with the media as well. Whether it is a podcast of some sort or if he opts to go on one of the main networks and call games, I could definitely see Hutchinson being one of the many former players making the transition into TV.
How about you? Who do you think would be best suited for TV once their playing days are done? Let us know in the comments below.
