Ice Skating in Millennium and Maggie Daley Parks: Grab your skates and head downtown as the Maggie Daley Ice Skating Ribbon and the Millennium Park Ice Rink open for the season (weather permitting). Loop around on the Maggie Daley Ribbon or skate in the shadow of the Chicago Skyline and “Cloud Gate” in Millennium Park. Not a skater? Learn how at the Millennium Park rink. Lincoln Park ZooLights: It’s that time of year again — for the 30th year. Get to the Lincoln Park Zoo while the weather is mild to bask in the glow of more than 3 million holiday lights. Brookfield Zoo Reindeer Run: For a more active holiday zoo experience, go to Brookfield for a two-mile fun run under the Holiday Magic lights. Glow sticks and running shoes encouraged. “Rudolph the Red-Hosed Reindeer”: Get into the holiday spirit as the 25th anniversary production of this Hell in a Handbag Productions show opens this weekend. Chicago Puppet Festival Fall Living Room Tour: Want an up-close sneak peek of the annual Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival? Gildwen Peronno, co-director of the French RoiZIZO théâtre, will perform his solo show, “I Killed the Monster,” in living rooms around Chicago before returning to the city in January to perform as part of the full puppet festival lineup. Deeply Rooted Dance Theater: The contemporary dance company, centered on American and African American traditions, opens its new season with a program featuring five works. Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras: Its fall season kicks off this weekend with the flagship Orchestra’s Fall Concert featuring middle- and high-school students playing Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10 and more.
