MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A driver was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after a pursuit, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers say Sheriff Vern Warnke with the Merced County Sheriff's Office observed a vehicle traveling at a dangerously high speed in an unincorporated area in Merced County earlier this week.
When attempting to make an enforcement stop, CHP says the driver fled, leading deputies and CHP officers on a pursuit that eventually made its way to Highway 99.
CHP Merced Area Officer Anderson was nearby and assisted with the pursuit, approaching the Applegate exit near the sheriff's office.
Officers report the suspect exited the freeway and narrowly missed colliding with the officer's patrol vehicle before finally coming to a stop and being taken into custody.
The driver was later found to be under the influence.
