BCSO deputies responded to the Tijeras home on Young Road for a shots fired call. When they showed up, they were instantly met by 24-year-old Adlai Mestre, who started talking but wasn't making much sense.
"My family's trying to walk in my room, trying to hit my heart, and my dad had a knife, and my sister had a sledgehammer and I killed them. However, I found their bodies and their wounds were healed," he told deputies. He also told deputies he shot them all. The deputies then secured the gun they found on him and detained Mestre.
The deputies then searched the entire home. They found a lot of blood, some of which looked like it had been mopped up, and shell casings. Then, the deputies found the bodies of Mestre's parents and 17-year-old sister in the yard.
Mestre was charged with multiple counts of murder and evidence tampering. During his interview with police, video showed him kicking a wall in the interview room. On body camera, deputies can be heard trying to digest what they saw that day.
"You just feel bad, especially seeing the little girl," said one deputy. "It just sucks."
Mestre was also charged with extreme animal cruelty after deputies found a dog in the home who had been shot three times. Mestre's pre-trial detention hearing is on hold pending a competency evaluation.
