ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – On Wednesday, Volcano Vista baseball player Noah Massey made it official that he is going to play college baseball at NMSU. It is only the next step in what he hopes will be a long career.
"It has always been a dream of mine to play at the next level in college ball and even pro ball in the future, but college ball is just a stepping block on it," Massey said. "I think I just felt like a deep connection with them. Its just the connection with the coaching staff and I feel like they believed in me."
Massey is currently ranked as the No. 2 high school player in New Mexico behind La Cueva's Gatorade player of the year, Braiden Reynolds. He is also the top rater catcher in the state.
Still with a senior season left to play, Massey believes there is still plenty in his game that he can continue to develop. He has spend time playing with a club team based in Texas in front of MLB scouts has only added to his belief that he is fully capable of competing at the highest level.
"Confidence wise, I mean, I am seeing guys that are going to SEC schools and its just been good for me, like all the pitching and hitting," he said. "Its been fun to just go out to Houston and going out to Florida and playing in the World Championship out there and we actually went pretty far. I am going to have a chip on my shoulder just because I have seen what the top is and you know I am coming in here."
Volcano Vista opens the season on February 2 against West Mesa.
