RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Two new "quick build" bike lane projects are underway in the city of Richmond -- one in its Southside and another in its Carver neighborhood. In a Nov. 14 press release, the city said its Department of Public Works is actively working on these two projects, which should both be complete within the next year. The first project, called the "Southside enhanced mobility" project, will include buffered bike lanes and street upgrades along Holly Springs Avenue between Broad Rock and Hopkins roads. Weather permitting, the city aims to complete this project by the end of the year. The second project, called the "Carver Neighborhood bike lane upgrade" project, will include the repaving and bike lane reorganization of Leigh Street between Myers Street and North Allen Avenue. The city is also working on buffered bike lanes adjacent to sidewalks and on-street parking adjacent to travel lanes. Weather permitting, the city said this project should be complete by winter 2025. Disruptions due to this ongoing construction should be minor, according to the city. "Please be patient and give construction workers extra space and slow down when you see orange cones and work zones," the city said.
