2nd man arrested, charged with murder in connection to Portsmouth homicide

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A second man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with an Oct. 20 homicide on Jefferson Street in Portsmouth, police said.

Jamel Raiquon Jones, 27, was arrested Tuesday in connection to the Oct. 20 homicide of Danyelle Akoya Lee and has been charged with first-degree murder, discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, malicious wounding, shooting across a roadway and discharge of a firearm in a public place. Two other people were injured in the shooting.

Portsmouth Police responded to a report of a shooting around 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in the 2300 block of Jefferson Street, and when officers arrived, they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was taken to a local hospital.
Two other men who were shot were treated as a local hospital as walk-ins. One of them, Lee, died as a result of his injuries, police said.
Police previously arrested Torian Jamari Sexton, 19, in connection with the shooting and homicide. Sexton has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated malicious wounding and other firearm-related charges. He is currently in custody and being held without bond.
