Man indicted after Baton Rouge nightclub shooting leaves 1 dead

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge man accused of shooting and killing a man in an April shooting was indicted on Thursday, Nov. 14 by an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury.
Marquis Payne, of Baton Rouge, was indicted on second-degree murder and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities in the shooting death of Timotheus Bowie Jr., 26, according to court documents.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the shooting happened shortly after midnight on April 1 at The Palace nightclub on Scenic Highway. When officers arrived at the scene, they learned Bowie had been taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle but later died from his injuries.

Payne was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He was initially charged with second-degree murder.
