BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Louisiana military veteran got the surprise of a lifetime on Thursday, Nov. 14, as part of Progressive's 12th annual Keys to Progress giveaway in partnership with Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
Erika Hanson, a veteran who served in the army until she was honorably discharged in 2014, was the lucky recipient of a new SUV. The 12th annual Keys to Progress event is done all around the country and gives back to veterans who have served our country through vehicle giveaways.
After receiving the new vehicle, Hanson said she is grateful and said the vehicle will mark a new beginning.
“One door closes, another one opens. This one has literally opened a door to a big field of possibilities for my children, for myself,” Hanson said.

She refers to the car as a form of freedom, especially after being without a vehicle and struggling to get to places. Now, this vehicle will help in many ways, Hanson said.
“Getting to and from grocery stores, doctor's appointments, one of my kids get sick very easy. Also, I'm a disabled veteran, so to my appointments, getting rides to New Orleans is quite difficult,” said Hanson.
She is thankful for everyone who made the giveaway possible and emphasizes the difference it makes.
“Just keep doing it, like this helps anybody and everybody out that you bless. Like, life by itself is a blessing, but extra blessings always helps,” Hanson said.
