BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A program providing free books to young children in Kern County announced a new partnership Thursday. The United Way of Central Eastern California, Kern Literacy Council and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library are coming together to launch within UWCEC’s R.E.A.D. United initiative. Organizers say the main goal is improving Kern's literacy rate in kids and nurturing a love for reading within the community. "It's incredible to see United Way of Central Eastern California join Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in Kern County, administered by the Kern Literacy Council," said Ian J. Anderson, Executive Director of Kern Literacy Council. "This partnership highlights United Way's commitment to early childhood literacy and exemplifies the power of community collaboration."
