First Warning: First freeze possible in spots next week

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The First Warning Weather Team is seeing significant signals that the coldest air of the season (so far) looks on track to arrive toward the end of next week.
WHAT: The coldest air of fall with highs in the 50s and 60s and lows in the 30s and 40s.
WHEN: Arriving next Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
IMPACTS: Some frost or a light freeze may be possible in the Hill Country if the colder 30s are realized.

The way the timing looks at this point, a cold front will be arriving late in the day on Monday. The front and a reinforcing shot of colder air arriving on Tuesday should knock temperatures down from having highs in the 70s and 80s, to highs in the 50s and 60s.
Expected highs next Wednesday (November 20)
A wet pattern should precede the arrival of the front with rain chances arriving late Sunday through Monday.
Rainfall totals leading up to the colder air do not look to be too impressive with most areas keeping under half an inch of rainfall Sunday and Monday.
The wetter pattern that begins toward the end of our seven-day forecast is alluded to in the Climate Prediction Center's six to 10-day precipitation outlook.

The colder period to follow shows up in the CPC's eight to 14-day temperature outlook.
Extended outlook appears colder than normal
The coldest high temperature we've seen so far this fall in Austin was 73º on Nov. 5.
Our coldest morning low in Austin was 48º the morning of Nov. 6.
At this point we're forecasting highs in Austin next Wednesday of 65º with highs on Thursday slightly cooler.

Our coldest low temperatures of the season should arrive by next Thursday morning (November 21).
We could see our first frost and light freeze for parts of the Hill Country that morning.
