ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Brighton girls volleyball team made history on November 9th, earning its first sectional title in program history with a 3-2 win over Penfield. The Bruins' historic feat makes them this week's Primetime 585 Spotlight Team. In the Class AA sectional tournament, second-seeded Brighton defeated Greece Olympia/Odyssey, Webster Thomas and Hilton, losing only one set along the way. In the finals, the Bruins went to five sets against top-seeded Penfield. They split the first two sets, but a 12-0 run in the third set from Brighton gave it the edge. The Patriots rallied back to take the fourth, sending it to a fifth set where the Bruins took a 15-13 victory. Brighton was represented on the All-Tournament Team by Charlotte Goldfeder, Vivian Marcus and Lucrezia Pavan, who was named MVP of the tournament. "Honestly, I couldn't have done it without the rest of the team. This MVP is for our entire team, we all earned it, all together," Pavan said. "It feels amazing, it's been a long time coming. I'm just so proud of the team in general." Marcus totaled 25 assists in the finals. After her impressive performance, the senior praised her team for its hard work throughout the year. "I am so proud of this team for all of the effort we put in through the offseason, while we're on, nonstop we never gave up," Marcus said. "That's what I think really let us stand out. When we lost, we didn't get down, and that's from every single person whether we're on the bench or on the court. It was really impressive and I'm really proud to make history right now." Following the win, head coach Andrew Guthrie took in the historic moment. "It means the absolute world to me and these girls," Guthrie said. "We have worked all season long, incredible hours, incredible intensity, and we did it. We did it." Congratulations to Coach Guthrie and the Brighton girls volleyball team on earning the Spotlight Team of the week!
