(KRON) -- A man was arrested Wednesday morning after a chaotic series of events unfolded in Antioch involving a vehicle crash, carjacking, kidnapping and high-speed police pursuit, according to the Antioch Police Department. At 8:48 a.m., police responded to multiple emergency calls of a vehicle crash near Lone Tree Way and Slatten Ranch Road. Callers said a man involved in the crash got out of a black sedan that was in the roadway and ran into the Slatten Ranch Shopping Center. A short time later, more callers reported that the same man had carjacked a silver SUV in the parking lot outside of the Panda Express. Police said the man began to drive away in the stolen SUV while the owner was still inside the vehicle. The victim, a female Antioch resident, was able to get free from the vehicle near the Walmart Supercenter. Suspect and victims flee scene of vehicle-to-vehicle shooting in Antioch As officers investigated the crash and carjacking, the stolen SUV was located and a high-speed police pursuit began, Antioch PD said. Pursuing officers abandoned the chase as the suspect approached a school zone, but the abandoned vehicle was later located in the 3100 block of View Drive. From there, police said, the suspect attempted to break in to several parked cars in the area of Alcala Street and West Tregallas Road. Witnesses in the neighborhood reported the suspicious activity to Antioch PD and officers responded to the area. The suspect ran onto northbound Highway 4, where he was subsequently arrested. Antioch police credited the residents who reported the suspicious activity and called to help the female victim. “Your assistance is invaluable,” the department said.
