Kstate football player injured in Manhattan headon crash

MANHATTAN (KSNT) - A Kansas State University football player was sent to a local hospital after a crash on Wednesday.
The Riley County Police Department (RCPD) said a crash occurred around 6:15 a.m. on Nov. 13 at the corner of Marlatt Avenue and Matter Drive in Manhattan. Police found that a Jeep Cherokee had crossed the center line, driving into oncoming traffic.
A GMC Sierra swerved to avoid the oncoming Jeep but ended up hitting it as the Jeep returned to the correct lane. The vehicles collided in a head-on crash.
The driver of the GMC, listed as 21-year-old Alec Marenco, was injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Ryan Lackey with K-State Athletics confirms this is a player on the university football team.

Marenco is a senior hailing from El Paso, Texas. He is a linebacker on the team who has played in only one game this season on sept. 7 at Tulane. Lackey said Marenco is no longer at the hospital as of Nov. 14.
