Kansas election officials complete hand count of votes cast in tight Legislature races
Nov 14, 2024
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas election workers have completed two close-race audits Thursday impacting two seats in the Kansas Legislature.
Whitney Tempel with the Kansas Secretary of State's (SOS) office announced in a press release on Nov. 14 that audits for Kansas Senate District 5 for Wyandotte and Leavenworth Counties and Kansas House District 49 for Johnson County have been completed. These audits were triggered following the Nov. 5 General Election.
Tempel said close-race audits were automatically issued due to the races being extremely close. Election workers counted by hand each ballot tied to these races and compared them to a machine-tabulated vote count. Unofficial vote results, last updated on Nov. 8, for these races can be found below:
Kansas House of Representatives 49.
Nikki L. McDonald (D) - 6,183/51%.
Kurtis Ruf (R) - 6,058/49%.
Kansas Senate 5
Jeff Pittman (D) - 15,479/50%.
Jeff Klemp (R) - 15,520/50%.
Who are the Kansas Jan. 6 rioters that could be pardoned by Donald Trump?
"The close-race audits have concluded," Schwab said. "I appreciate these county poll workers for going the extra mile to ensure additional auditing took place for these tightly contested races."
The SOS has yet to post the full official results of the recent General Election. You can look through the list of unofficial voting results by clicking here.
