Jenkins High shooting for state title in turnaround season
Nov 14, 2024
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Jenkins High School is 8-2 heading into playoff time which is a complete turnaround after finishing 5-8 last season.
Head Coach Anthony Welch said that he is confident the Warriors have a chance to contend for a Class AAA state title.
"We're just ready to start the playoff and see how far we can go," said Welch. "Our goal is to win it all and like I said earlier in the year we're not being cocky; we just think we've got the team to do it."
Much of the Warrior's success stems from its explosive offense. Quarterback Demetrius Holloway is at the helm with 12 touchdown passes, while wide receiver Trenton Rhodes leads the team with 14 total touchdowns.
Rhodes said that each player has had the goal of winning a state title since enrolling at Jenkins.
"This was the goal for the class of 2025 and under," Rhodes said. "Every class that comes after us has that same goal and here we are making that dream come into reality."
Jenkins will come into the playoffs after winning it's last three games in dominant fashion. The Warriors beat Islands, Johnson and Windsor Forest by an average of 52 points-per-game.
The warriors begin its playoff run Friday against Northwest Whitfield at home at Memorial stadium at 7:30 p.m.
