EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — November is National Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Dr. Anuradha Ramaswamy, the medical director of bronchoscopy, interventional pulmonology, and the Lung Nodule Clinic at Kent Hospital, joined 12 News at 4 to talk about the disease, which is the most common cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Dr. Ramaswamy shared that the most common cause of lung cancer is smoking, though 15% to 20% of lung cancers occur in people who have never smoked. Exposure to radon, asbestos, and other environmental agents can also cause lung cancer, which is why it's important to know the symptoms.
