RI unemployment rate holds steady for 2nd straight month

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island's unemployment rate did not change for the second month in a row, according to the R.I. Department of Labor and Training (DLT).
Job numbers from the DLT showed the state's unemployment rate was still at 4.6% in October, as it was during September. The last change was an increase of one-tenth of a percentage point from 4.5% in July to 4.6% in August.

Compared to the national number, 4.1%, Rhode Island's unemployment rate is still half a percentage point higher.
Data from the DLT also shows the state added 400 jobs last month, and 9,000 total from October 2023.
Approximately 563,300 Rhode Islanders were employed, after a decrease of 800 last month.
