Ed Daniels honored as a sports journalism inductee in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame

NATCHITOCHES, La. (WGNO) — The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame announced Thursday that long-time New Orleans sportscaster and WGNO Sports Director Ed Daniels will be honored with the LSWA's 2025 Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism.
Daniels will officially be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame with a stellar 2025 class on June 28.

He will be enshrined posthumously, after his tragic passing in August at the age of 67.
Daniels became sports director at WGNO in 1992 where he became a titan in the sports broadcasting industry.
Daniels founded WGNO's "Friday Night Football" with legendary high school football coach J.T. Curtis. The program became the standard for high school football shows and is currently in its 33rd season.
He made sure the spotlight shined bright on prep sports year-round through other programming like WGNO's "Friday Night Sports" and "Friday Night Fastball."

Daniels' Friday Night Fastball co-host and Delgado baseball coach, Joe Scheuermann, is also a part of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame's 2025 class.
In 2014, the Press Club of New Orleans honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
He was also a three-time Louisiana Sportscaster of the Year in 1997, 2014 and 2018.
