Community is more than just a group of people living in the same place; it’s the heart and soul of who we are, what we value, and where we see our future. In Vermont, we live in a state where community matters—a place where neighbors support one another, local businesses thrive with community backing, and people come together to solve the challenges that shape our towns and lives. This sense of community is what makes Vermont, Vermont—even when facing challenges that affect us all. When differences arise, Vermonters still come together, proving that our shared experiences—whether at a concert for flood relief, story hours at the local library, or meetings at town hall—are stronger than any disagreement. In our work, we see how this spirit is embodied daily. We wanted to capture that and share it with all of you. Because, well, it’s a story that isn’t told enough. Each nonprofit featured—Clemmons Family Farm, King Street Center, Shelburne Farms, Stowe Story Labs, The Family Room, and The Space on Main—represents a different aspect of Vermont’s community fabric. Clemmons Family Farm brings people together through African diaspora arts and culture, fostering understanding, celebrating diversity, and creating a sense of place within a cherished, working farm. King Street Center plays a vital role supporting and empowering youth and their families through programs, mentorship, and educational support. Shelburne Farms invites Vermonters to connect with the land while learning about sustainable farming, food systems and the importance of environmental stewardship. Stowe Story Labs gives voice to our unique stories, encouraging people to share their narratives and, in turn, understand each other better. The Family Room creates a safe space for families to gather and grow, strengthening connections and offering support. And The Space on Main provides an innovative community hub for creativity, entrepreneurship, and collaboration.Through these nonprofits, we see the many ways community can flourish—from supporting cultural heritage and environmental care to fostering family connections and creative expression. Each of these organizations offers Vermonters a place to gather, to engage, and to feel part of something bigger.Philanthropy plays a vital role here, not just as a means of financial support, but as an act of connection. Through giving, people reaffirm their commitment to Vermont’s well-being, knowing that every contribution—whether small or large—adds to the fabric of a resilient, thriving community, helping to make Vermont a place where people of all backgrounds can feel they belong.By making this video, we hope to inspire others to look for community in action. Let’s share these moments when they happen. Let’s celebrate the way these nonprofits, along with countless others across the state, nurture a sense of belonging, strengthen local ties, and make Vermont more than another place on a map.In times when differences could pull us apart, it’s our shared experiences that keep us connected. This video is our way of celebrating this spirit. We hope you enjoy it. Read the story on VTDigger here: The heart of Vermont: It’s our community that connects us in tough times.
