Trial for man accused of killing Scott County deputy moved to Shelby County
Nov 14, 2024
SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — The trial location for Steven Sheangshang, the man accused of fatally shooting Scott County Deputy Caleb Conley during a traffic stop in May 2023, has been officially moved to Shelby County. This decision follows Sheangshang’s recent court appearance, where defense attorneys initially requested a change of venue to Jefferson County, citing concerns over potential local bias.
The judge had suggested Shelby County as an alternative location, allowing both the defense and prosecution to consider it. Early Thursday, the judge finalized the move, setting the stage for Sheangshang’s trial in Shelby County next year. Sheangshang is charged with murder in the death of Deputy Conley and faces additional charges related to the incident.
The trial is scheduled for February 28 to March 27, 2025.
