Firefighters work to rescue worker trapped under rubble at Kentucky construction site

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — On Thursday, Louisville Fire crews are working to rescue a construction worker trapped underground in downtown.
According to officials, a “structural collapse” occurred in the 300 block of East Chestnut Street, on the site of the demolition of the old Community Correctional Facility.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said during a news conference on Thursday the person trapped is a worker on the site.
Authorities said they are able to communicate with the person trapped in the rubble.
Greenberg said the trapped individual is “still breathing” and “hanging in there,” while fire officials attempt to rescue them.
City officials announced earlier this year that the old Community Correctional Facility, which closed in 2020, would be demolished this fall to make way for a future park and greenspace in the heart of LOUMED.
This is a breaking news story. We will update here with more information as we learn more.
