IMPD: Officer hit by car, driver shot near CVS on Indy's near north side

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis police officer is in the hospital after a driver reportedly struck them with a car on the city's near north side. A second officer then shot the suspect driver, IMPD said.
IMPD crews were called around 4 p.m. to check the welfare of a person inside a car parked near a CVS at the intersection of N. Meridian and 16th Street. Around 4:30 p.m., EMS crews were called to the area for an "unsafe gunshot scene."
Officer William Young with IMPD said that responding officers arrived to find a person inside a car. When attempting to make contact with the person, they reportedly began driving and struck an IMPD officer.
A second responding officer then reportedly shot his service weapon at the person's car, striking the driver.
The officer who was struck by the car was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is reportedly in good condition. The driver who was shot was taken to a local hospital in stable condition and is awake and breathing, Ofc. Young said.
FOX59/CBS4 has crews on scene observed a large police presence after the shooting.
