Healthy rains bring highest totals since early November Drizzle is all that remains following a system that brought healthy rains to several Central Indiana hometowns. Totals surpassed 2.0" across our southern counties, with Bedford (Lawrence County) approaching 3.0". This is the first time we've been in a rainfall surplus since July. Indianapolis's month-to-date rainfall surplus of 1.12" is ongoing. Mild and dry weekend on tap, winning weekend streak continues Once the drizzle gets out of here, we'll begin drying out in time for another decent weekend. This will be the eighth consecutive dry weekend for Central Indiana. Clouds will dominate for the most part. However, peeks of sun are likely each day through the weekend. Temperatures will remain seasonable to mild with highs in the mid-to-upper 50s through Saturday. Then, amplified upper-level ridging will give temperatures a nice boost into the 60s for Sunday-Tuesday. This will continue the very mild meteorological fall for us. It currently ranks as the second warmest to date on record. Not to mention that leading into Thursday, it's the warmest year to date (since January 1st) on record with an average temperature of 59.7°. Pattern change looms, coldest air of season and more? It's November 14th and Indianapolis still hasn't hit the freezing mark. It's only the sixth time on record (since 1871) we've gone this far into November without a 32° temperature reading in the Circle City. This is the first such occurrence in 102 years we're talking about this. Note: the normal first freeze for Indianapolis is October 23rd. As we bring this up, the potential for the coldest air of the season and first freeze is rising. In about a weeks time, our default mild weather pattern will be changing. A big dip in the jet stream with the arrival of a massive upper-level low. It will usher in the coldest air of the season late next week and entering next weekend. The first freeze for Indianapolis could occur here along with a snow chance. Still too far out to talk specifics but any chances of this would be minimal. Stay tuned!
