INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced that officers arrested five people between Wednesday and Thursday. As stated in a Facebook post, this started with the arrest of 24-year-old Elijah Miller of Carmel. According to previous reports, Miller was wanted for a Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon (Level 5 Felony) incident that took place in late October, before he turned himself in to local authorities Wednesday night. Elijah Miller (IMPD) Next came the arrest of 36-year-old Richard Pippens. On Sept. 30, IMPD officers from the northwest district responded to a report of shots fired in the 1000 block of W. 37th Street. Then, while driving, officers heard that a male had been shot a mile away from the initial call. IMPD said this directed them to the 3600 block of Crescent Drive, where they found a stationary Chevy sedan sitting in the roadway. Inside the car, officers found a male suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Per IMPD, he was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Officers spoke with multiple witnesses on-scene, telling them that the suspect's vehicle was a red four-door sedan. Using this information and reviewing cameras in the area, the detectives tracked down the vehicle's license plate number and connected it to Pippens. Then, on Wednesday, Pippens was located. IMPD said they took him into custody and charged him with aggravated assault and the unlawful carrying of a handgun. A mugshot for Pippens has not yet been provided at this time. Following that was the arrest of two juveniles. According to IMPD, officers were on-scene in the 6000 block of West Lake North Drive in Indianapolis around 2 a.m. on Nov. 10. Here, officers investigated a black Chevy sedan with an unresponsive female inside, suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. She, too, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Police were then informed of an original crime scene that took place in the 2500 block of Beach Way Drive. Detectives collected evidence from the scene and connected it to two juveniles. They were arrested for involvement in attempted murder, auto theft and other outright charges, IMPD wrote. Further, on Nov. 9 around 9:20 p.m., IMPD officers were called to the 2000 block of W. 65th Street on the report of a person shot. Upon arrival, police located a man and woman suffering injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. This led detectives to identify 21-year-old Talaysia Pollard as a suspect. IMPD said she also had two active and unrelated warrants at the time: one out of Marion County for battery by means of a deadly weapon (Level 5 felony) and a misdemeanor conversion warrant out of Greenwood. IMPD said they located Pollard in the 1000 block of Southpark Drive in Greenwood on Thursday. She was taken into custody without incident and charged with aggravated assault, while also being taken in for her warrants. A mugshot for Pollard has not yet been provided. "The arrests made over the past 48 hours demonstrate the relentless dedication of our officers and detectives," IMPD Police Chief Chris Bailey said. "My hope is these arrests sends a clear message: we will not tolerate actions that threaten the safety and security of our community. I am proud of our department as we work to ensure Indianapolis remains a safe place for all." IMPD added that the Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make all final charging decisions. They also seized multiple firearms related to the incidents. Images of those firearms can be viewed in their Facebook post.
