The 2024 'Iolani Classic field has been unveiled, featuring the return of former 'Iolani standout guard and current Utah Prep senior JJ Mandaquit. Mandaquit, who signed with Washington on Wednesday, relocated to Utah following his freshman season at 'Iolani. Since then, he garnered dozens of scholarship offers before choosing the Huskies. Along the way, he served as the starting point guard for the United States junior national team for consecutive summers. All the latest sports news from Hawaii's sports station Utah Prep's roster also features former Kohala standout Layden Kauka and Laie native Anthony Felesi. Additionally, the team also boasts AJ Dybantsa, the consensus No. 1 player in the class of 2025. The boys tournament runs from Dec. 17 to Dec. 21. Utah Prep will open against Kahuku on Dec. 18. Other teams in the boys field include national power Oak Hill Academy and defending national No. 1 team St. Paul VI among a field that consists of seven schools from the continental United States and Japan's Osaka Gakuin University Senior High School. Eight local teams round out the field of 16. The girls tournament, which runs from Dec. 12 to 14, includes California's Etiwanda High School and New York's Long Island Lutheran High School, who are separately ranked as the top girls basketball teams in the country. Host 'Iolani, the five-time defending HHSAA girls basketball champions, is one of five local teams.
