(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested a suspect for shooting a coyote within city limits.
On Thursday, Nov. 14, CSPD received a call from a mobile home park near the 3400 block of Sinton Road, close to Sinton Trail that someone shot a gun and was seen dragging something away from the shooting scene.
Upon arrival, officers found a coyote had been shot by someone in the mobile home park.
According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), these species are deemed a nuisance and can be hunted, trapped, or taken on lands owned or leased by a person experiencing damage to crops, livestock, or property.
Officers were able to locate the suspect and arrest them as firearms cannot be discharged within city limits, per City code 9.7.104.
"I don’t believe there was an active threat when the coyote was shot, which is why the individual was charged," said a spokesperson with CSPD.
Police said the person was charged, served a court summons, and released to their home.
