Record number of runners expected for 20th annual Charlotte Marathon
Nov 14, 2024
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 20th annual Charlotte Marathon is this weekend, and it is preparing for a record number of participants.
All event distances – including the marathon, half marathon, relays, a rucking division, and 5k – are sold out for the first time ever. Organizers are expecting a record 9,600 runners across all events, officials said.
“This really is a celebration of the running community and its ongoing support,” said Tim Rhodes, Managing Partner and Race Director for the Novant Health Charlotte Marathon. “We’re grateful for that, and the support of the City of Charlotte, public safety, the thousands of volunteers, the neighborhoods, and everyone who’s hosting a party or a cheer station along the course.”
This year’s race has runners representing all 50 states and 19 countries.
The festivities begin Friday with the Health and Wellness Expo and packet pick-up at the Charlotte Convention Center.
All events on Saturday begin in Uptown Charlotte on South Tryon Street between Levine Avenue and Arts and Brooklyn Avenue.
