CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Harris Teeter teamed up with the Lowcountry Food Bank to assemble 2,000 Thanksgiving meal kits for local families in need.
Each meal bag was packed with items necessary for the holiday meal to feed a family of four. It included a turkey breast, stuffing, yams, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, rolls, and a cake mix.
The Lowcountry Food Bank says there is a tremendous need in our communities this year, and corporate sponsors like Harris Teeter help make it possible to reach goals and ensure everyone is fed.
Nick Osborne, president and CEO of the Lowcountry Food Bank, said hunger and food security in their service area is significant.
“We are looking at nearly one in five children facing hunger and food insecurity,” he said. “This event is critical for our ability to get the necessary food, nutritious food, out to those who need it during this period of the year, whether that’s to children, our seniors, veterans, or families in general.”
The food that was packed on Thursday will be distributed to food pantries across our area.
If you are feeling the giving spirit and want to get involved, Harris Teeter is running their annual Harvest Feast Food and Fund Drive now, which invites shoppers to round up their transactions at checkout to benefit hunger relief partners.
