Nov 14, 2024
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — STEM for Her is a local organization on a mission to bring more science, technology, engineering, and math opportunities to local young women who express interest in these fields. The annual STEM for Her Day returns for its third year, on Friday, Nov. 15 at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C.
STEM for Her Day is a conference-style event for over 300 female high school students from the D.C. metro area. The event connects students to industry professionals, specific career opportunities, and university options through a school day's worth of sessions, competitions, networking, and more, fostering the next generation of female STEM leaders.
Google Store (the brick-and-mortar kind) planned for Georgetown
STEM for Her Day features four tracks the students may follow throughout the day – a science track, a technology track, an engineering track, and a math track.
Mahwish Hamlani, this year's STEM for Her chair, shared her excitement for this year's event and the guest speakers, "The girls will get to attend all types of sessions- everything from artificial intelligence to medicine. They'll get to meet some NASA astronauts and they'll get to meet industry leaders who are also starting to talk about what do we do in case of a future pandemic- how do you contain that? What does the forensics of a cyber security breach look like? So, it will be a very exciting day and most importantly they get to meet other girls who are interested in STEM that are also local to the area."
