WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A Virginia man was sentenced to three years for assaulting police as well as other charges during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
On Nov.12, Micaiah Joseph, 33, of Triangle, Virginia, was sentenced to 37 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release after being found guilty of assaulting law enforcement as well as other offenses.
He was also ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution.

Court documents revealed that on Jan. 6, 2021, Joseph attended the “Stop the Steal” rally on the Ellipse and later joined a crowd that was walking toward the Capitol building.
Joseph went into a restricted area of the Capitol and was part of the group of rioters that became physical with officers near an entrance to the U.S. Capitol known as the “Tunnel.”
The "Tunnel" is where a lot of the violence against police took place that day. Joseph took part in that violence by pushing against officers and helping rioters push against police.
Joseph was arrested in Virginia by the FBI on Jan. 18, 2023.
More than 1,500 people have been arrested in almost all 50 states since Jan. 6, 2021.
Almost 600 people have also been charged with assaulting or impeding police, which is a felony.
