SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- For those planning on hopping a train along the San Diego corridor this weekend, alternative travel plans will need to be made. A full rail closure between Oceanside and San Diego is scheduled for maintenance and construction, the North County Transit District announced.
The closure will begin at midnight on Saturday, Nov. 16, and end at 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 18. This will affect all rail services on the segment of the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) coastal rail corridor, which includes NCTD, Amtrak and freight services operated by BNSF.

Officials with NCTD say the closure is part of ongoing efforts to improve and maintain the region's rail infrastructure. They say it's also timed to minimize disruption, with several weeks worth of work scheduled to be completed during this one-weekend closure.
Key construction activities
During the closure, crews from the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) will carry out important stabilization work on the Del Mar bluffs and continue progress on the Batiquitos Lagoon Double-Track Project. Work along the Del Mar bluffs will include the installation of steel beams and the reinforcement of existing piles to prevent erosion and improve stability. These efforts are crucial for ensuring the long-term safety of the rail line, which runs along the scenic coastline.
Additionally, construction will continue on the temporary platform at Batiquitos Lagoon, which is part of a larger project aimed at expanding and modernizing the rail corridor.

Potential disruptions
Nearby residents should expect worksite lighting and noise from heavy equipment, including large drilling machines, as crews work to complete these projects. Traffic may also increase around the North Torrey Pines State Beach parking lot and along key local roads like Camino Del Mar and Coast Boulevard just north of 15th Street, as construction crews access the Del Mar bluffs.
Pedestrian access to certain trails along the bluffs will be temporarily restricted. Specifically, trails at the North Torrey Pines Road and Carmel Valley Road intersection, as well as at the ends of 11th and 12th streets, will be closed for the duration of the weekend.
To ensure safety, officials are advising the public to stay clear of construction zones and not attempt to enter these areas.

Alternatives for rail passengers
Passengers who rely on rail service during the closure are advised to check for alternative transportation options. Both NCTD and Amtrak have published schedules for alternate routes.
Construction schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions and other unforeseen factors, NCTD officials noted. Residents and commuters are urged to stay updated on any adjustments that may affect travel plans.
