One person dies in Greenfield house fire on Silver Street

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - One person has died and another person is injured after a house fire in Greenfield Wednesday night.

The Greenfield Fire Department was sent to 52 Silver Street after a 911 call around 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the city of Greenfield. The caller said that a building was on fire with residents trapped inside.
Upon arrival, crews found a single-family home completely on fire. Firefighters began searching for occupants when one person was found dead. Another resident was taken to an area hospital for their injuries. A third resident reported that they heard smoke alarms and were able to escape without injuries.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Greenfield Fire Department, Greenfield Police Department, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office, State Police assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office and is being supported by the Department of Fire Services’ Code Compliance & Enforcement Unit.
