Lanier & Associates Consulting Engineers, Inc. (Lanier), a leading marine engineering design firm based in New Orleans, is proud to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. Established in 1974 by Sorrell Lanier as a one-person firm, the company has grown to become one of the region’s premier independent marine engineering firms, serving major private and port markets across the Gulf Coast as well as other domestic and international locales.
“My father founded Lanier with a vision to provide the highest level of specialized marine, port, and dock engineering design and implementation services to key industries and global companies,” said the firm’s president, Price Lanier. “Five decades later, we continue to uphold that legacy of excellence through the work of our talented team that keeps the international economy humming.”
Since its inception, Lanier has designed numerous significant projects for clients large and small, from Fortune 500 companies like Exxon Mobile, Valero, Phillips 66, CHS and ADM to major Ports including Port of Beaumont, Port of Corpus Christi, Port of Lake Charles and Port of Plaquemines. Some of the company’s most notable projects have focused on the design and construction of oil & gas storage facilities, grain elevators, and port infrastructure such as rail, barge, dock and wharf developments in key markets across Louisiana and Texas, in addition to major international facilities overseas. Lanier said the company also provides routine maintenance, upgrades, inspection and survey services that come from its long-term client relationships.
Specializing in seven primary areas of marine-based industries, Lanier offers comprehensive engineering services to the following sectors:
• Oil & Gas: Providing design and construction services for storage/transfer facilities and infrastructure.
• Mid-Stream Feed Stock Storage Companies: Designing storage facilities to enhance efficiency and safety.
• Grain Elevators: Constructing grain elevators to facilitate the storage and transportation of agricultural commodities.
• Ports in Major Marine Transportation Hubs: Enhancing port infrastructure to accommodate the growing needs of the international marine transport industry.
• Petrochem: Providing engineering solutions for petrochemical companies to support their operational requirements.
• Green Energy: Developing sustainable solutions for green energy projects to promote environmental stewardship and renewable energy production.
• Bulk and Breakbulk: Developing cargo wharves for breakbulk handling as well as bulk commodities including fertilizer, petrocoke, cement and salt.
“The industries Lanier serves – including energy and agriculture – are integral to economic growth as well as sustaining the everyday lives of people across the country and beyond,” Lanier said. “On the energy side, the U.S. has become the top exporter of green energy products in the world, like ammonia. As to agriculture, the war in Ukraine has decimated its grain production, and the top ranking for global grain distribution has shifted to Louisiana. Our firm’s work is at the center of these two major international industries, but most people likely don’t associate the importance of marine engineering to the global supply chain.”
During its half century in business, Lanier has grown from that team of one to a company of more than 130. While its headquarters is firmly rooted in New Orleans, the company has expanded into growing satellite offices on the New Orleans Northshore as well as in Texas markets like Beaumont, Corpus Christi and Houston. The firm’s footprint strategically positions it to serve clients in many of the country’s most significant transportation hubs.
Lanier said his firm’s culture is built around being a family-owned and operated business, with a strong commitment to its employees and their families. The company’s core values of integrity, professionalism, and excellence guide its operations and ensure the highest level of service to clients, while also creating an environment where its employees thrive and prosper.
“As the firm looks ahead to our next 50 years, we remain committed to delivering exceptional engineering services and innovative solutions to our clients,” Lanier said. “We have a strong focus on sustainability, safety, and efficiency, and we are dedicated to supporting the success of the industries that have allowed us to grow into the business we are today.”
