FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) has arrested Steven Girtley in connection to a recent murder in Franklin County. Authorities reported that Girtley was found and taken into custody early Thursday morning, inside a barn on his property. He is behind bars in the Franklin County Detention Center and faces one count of murder.
The arrest follows a multi-day search by KSP, which began on November 9 after troopers responded to an altercation between Steven Girtley and Justin Girtley, on Flat Creek Road. When officers arrived, they found Justin Girtley with a gunshot wound. The 36-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner.
According to police, Steven Girtley fled into woods near the scene before troopers arrived, prompting an intensive search involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Frankfort Police, and Versailles Police. Authorities issued a public alert on November 10, urging anyone with information about Girtley’s whereabouts to contact KSP Post 12.
After extensive efforts, Steven Girtley was caught and is now facing a murder charge. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement officials continue gathering evidence related to the incident.
