Anderson meth dealer gets 20 years for drug, gun crimes
Nov 14, 2024
ANDERSON, Ind. — An illegally armed central Indiana meth dealer will now spend over 20 years behind bars after pleading guilty to numerous gun and drug charges.
Kennley Johnson, 43, of Anderson, was sentenced Thursday to 250 months in federal prison and five years of supervised release. This came after Johnson pled guilty to three counts of meth distribution and two counts of unlawful gun possession by a felon.
Court documents show that on three separate occasions between March and April 2024, Johnson was seen by police selling over 130 grams of meth and two handguns to a person in Anderson.
During a subsequent search of Johnson's house, police found over 380 grams of meth, over $5,000 cash, ammo and a loaded handgun. Johnson is prohibited from owning guns due to being a convicted felon and career criminal.
Since turning 18, Johnson has been convicted of five drug-related offenses and has been charged with theft once. He also failed to return to "lawful detention" after abandoning his work release duties while being held on one of those charges.
Johnson was still on probation for a prior conviction at the time of his arrest.
U.S. District Attorney Zachary A. Myers said that armed criminals like Johnson are dangerous to Indiana.
"Illegally armed drug dealers do tremendous harm to communities in every part of our state," he said in a release Thursday. "Numerous prior convictions and prison terms were not enough to convince this career criminal to change his ways."
Johnson's sentencing was imposed by Chief U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt. The Anderson Police Department and ATF investigated his case.
